How Many Pages Should a Resume be in 2020?
Here at Resumes To You, we often get our clients requesting that their resumes be only two pages long. We ask them, “Why?” and their answer is that it’s what they’ve read or heard. This statement is, in fact, not true; a resume doesn’t need to be two pages or less. Here’s what you need to consider when looking at how many pages to include in your resume.
Relevancy is more important than length
Making your resume concise and relevant to the job you’re applying for is key. (Check out our blog on tailoring your Resume and cov. That’s not to say that you should trim your Resume down to one or two pages if you have more work history, skills or qualifications that pertain to the role you’re applying for.
On the other hand, if you’re new to the workforce or have only been with one or two companies, don’t feel like you need to pad your resume out to two or more pages. Quality is more important than quantity, especially when it comes to resumes.
How many pages are resumes on average?
You might be surprised to find out that the average length of a Resume here in Australia is three pages.
They can range anywhere from one page to a maximum of five pages, depending on the amount of roles held and the career level of the applicant in question. If your resume comes to more than five pages, however, you likely have superfluous information that could stand to be cut out.
Don’t risk underselling yourself on your Resume
There are times when a job advertisement may state that applicants must only submit resumes that are two pages in length.
This is the only real time you should stick to the two-page ‘rule’, as cutting your Resume down to only two pages when you have filled more is doing yourself a disservice. If you need more pages to adequately sell yourself to recruiters, use them!
Don’t edit your resume of vital information purely to get it down to two pages; your Resume paints a picture of you as a potential employee to the hiring manager, and they need to have the full picture to make a correct judgement on your suitability for the role.
