The Christmas cheer is nearly in full swing, but there is that nagging feeling that 2016 is drawing to an end without that dream job in prospect. Spending pressures are acute, and worries abound that employers are winding down for the holidays. Sound familiar?
Here at Resumes To You we recognise the difficulties in staying positive. The Christmas period, though, can be both an excellent time to take stock and plan for the New Year, and to look out for that opportunity which others miss. Here are a few tips for keeping your mind focused, and your job search on track.
Get organised. Review the year and look for positive lessons, critically assess your Resumes / CV and Social Media sites and plan your New Year campaign.
Get creative. Employers in the sales, marketing and creative industries for example are looking for the “Wow!” factor – think how you can deliver it when prospecting for a job. This may involve anything from re-crafting your Resumes / CV to show your successes right up front, to producing a simple, short video demonstrating your skills and innovative thinking.
Get networking. Socialising at this time of year may be the last thing on your mind, but it’s on everybody else’s, and it’s a great way to hear about unadvertised jobs. It’ll also take your mind off negative feelings. Don’t forget virtual networking – ensure you’re using social media to keep in touch with friends and colleagues and, most importantly, make new ones.
But keep balanced. Above all, maintain a sense of perspective and don’t put the rest of your life on hold. Even try something new, like volunteering, but don’t forget to enjoy the festivities!
For help with Resume / CV updates or LinkedIn Profiles – we’re always available to assist clients over the Christmas and Holiday period to get you ready for the New Year.
